Our physicians in Division of Infectious Diseases and HIV Medicine are committed to providing the highest quality of care to our patients. We provide expert diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases to include but not limited to HIV/AIDS, orthopedic infections, complex wound infections, endovascular infections, transplant-associated infections, long-term antibiotic administration, chronic hepatitis B and C, and travel medicine.
INFECTIOUS DISEASES OUTPATIENT CLINICS
The Infectious Diseases physicians provide treatment and management of acute infections, chronic infectious diseases and outpatient antibiotic therapy. Prior to scheduling a new patient consultation in the clinic, patients must have a referral from their physician indicating the diagnosis and reason for an ID consultation. JOHN T. CAREY SPECIAL IMMUNOLOGY CLINIC
The John T. Carey Special Immunology Unit (SIU) was established in 1985 to address the growing need in our community for primary medical care for persons with HIV infection. Under the leadership of Director, Barbara Gripshover, MD, and the team of physicians, nurses, medical assistants, social workers, dietician, and onsight pharmacist, the SIU is the largest provider of primary care to individuals with HIV in northern Ohio and one of the largest in the Midwest. Our patients may also benefit from clinical trials through the AIDS Clinical Trials Unit (ACTU), a leader in clinical treatment trials research for the management of HIV infection.
The SIU provides care to individuals with HIV regardless of ability to pay for services. For those that are un/underinsured, the SIU receives federal, state and local money to provide comprehensive primary medical care which includes but is not limited to:
- Physician appointments
- Radiology services
- Dental care
- Nurse care coordination
- Case management
- Nutritional counseling
- Laboratory testing
- Assistance with obtaining medications
All information at the SIU is strictly confidential. We realize the private nature of all patient information and make it our priority to maintain confidentiality. Patient charts and information are not shared with other health care providers without a release of information from the patient. ROE GREEN CENTER FOR TRAVEL MEDICINE
The Travelers' HealthCare Center provides comprehensive consultation for the preparation and treatment of travelers to developing countries. University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and Case Western Reserve University are leading centers for research into diseases of developing countries involving work both here and in numerous centers overseas. Through this Center, we utilize this unique resource to provide a service to the Greater Cleveland area. The ID Consultation Service
An Infectious Diseases consultation may be requested for evaluation and management of adult hospitalized patients with acute and chronic infectious diseases complications.
The Carpenter Service
The Carpenter Service is primarily for our HIV hospitalized patient. When HIV-infected patients are admitted to the hospital and require a consult, they will be evaluated by the Carpenter attending.
University Hospitals Health System Inpatient Consultations
We currently have three community-based ID physicians who serve Ahuja Medical Center and Richmond Medical Center. An Infectious Diseases consultation may be requested for evaluation and management of adult hospitalized patients with acute and chronic infectious diseases complications at any of these facilities.
